Dear Colleague,

I welcome you as a new member of the BioEM society. Members are the heart of the society. I and the other board members will work hard for you.
I first want to thank all the members that make the new society a reality.
In 2021 a majority of you have voted for the start of a new society after a long preparation process by a very dedicated merger committee under guidance of René de Sèze and myself and further members Philip Chadwick, Guangdi Chen, Niels Kuster, Isabelle Lagroye, Alexandre Legros, Micaela Liberti, Richard Nuccitelli, and Marnus Van Wyk. Thanks team!
After the founding meeting at the end of the BioEM meeting in Ghent, the Founding board has made the preparation of the new society. I thank the Founding board with co-Presidents Micaela Liberti and Marnus van Wyk and as further members Bennett Ibey, Niels Kuster, Lucas Portelli, and Olga Zeni to make a fantastic preparation for the first BioEM board.
Meanwhile we had elections and the results were available on February 8. I thank the nominating committee (René de Sèze (Chairman), Bennett Ibey, Isabelle Lagroye, Micaela Liberti, and Marnus Van Wyk) for its great work to have nominated brilliant candidates.
The results were announced on February 8. The first BioEM board is composed as: Luc Martens (President), Azadeh Peyman (President-elect), Niels Kuster (Treasurer), Anke Huss, Bennett Ibey, Wout Joseph, Rich Nuccitelli, Florence Poulletier De Gannes, Lucas Portelli, Frank Prato, and Olga Zeni.

I am very happy with this amazing team of engaged board members. We have an ambitious program. Already 2 board meetings were taking place and several committees are established. We will soon present a logo and a preliminary website. We will also recruit this year a new Editor-in-chief for the Bioelectromagnetics journal. You will also soon get a message about this job vacancy.

All actions and the ambitious program for the next two years will be presented at the first General Assembly meeting at the BioEM annual meeting in Nagoya, Japan.
The founding board decided – this was confirmed by the BioEM board – that this year there will be no membership fee for the members. As the 2021 BEMS and EBEA members are automatically member of the BioEM society, they also do not have to pay membership fee.
Let us make it together a great society, a society of members for members.
I hope to meet you in Japan.
Luc Martens
