Traveling to Rennes

Rennes is a city that is extremely accessible, notably due to the recent high-speed train line (“LGV, Ligne Grande Vitesse”) that now links Rennes with Paris in less than 90 minutes. Since Paris is one of the major travel hubs in Europe and in the world, this will facilitate access to BioEM2025 participants. More specifically, here are a few numbers to evaluate the accessibility of Rennes:

Rennes international airport

Rennes–Saint-Jacques Airport is a modern and convenient airport located just 7 km southwest of Rennes city center. In terms of connections to outside countries, Rennes–Saint-Jacques Airport does have international flights (e.g., Brussels, London, Madrid…). While it may not be as well-connected as some larger airports in France, it offers a good range of options for travel within Europe. Moreover, being a smaller airport, Rennes offers a more relaxed and efficient travel experience, with shorter wait times and less crowds. Overall, Rennes–Saint-Jacques Airport is a convenient and hassle-free option for travelers. Getting to and from Rennes–Saint-Jacques Airport is easy, as there are several transport options available. The quickest and most convenient way to reach the city center is by taxi, which takes around 15 minutes and costs approximately €20-25.

Alternatively, there is a shuttle bus service which runs every 20-30 minutes, and connects the airport with the city center. The journey takes around 20-25 minutes and the fare is €1.50 (the same as a regular bus ticket). The TGV train from Paris to Rennes takes around 1 hour and 25 minutes, making it a quick and convenient way to travel between the two cities. There are also regular TER (Regional Express Train) services connecting Rennes with other nearby cities and towns, such as Saint-Malo, Nantes, and Vannes.

The train station itself is a modern and well-equipped facility, with a range of amenities for travelers, including cafes, restaurants, shops, and luggage storage. There are also several ticket counters and self-service machines, making it easy to purchase tickets or check train schedules.
