23rd December 2025
Dear BioEM Member,
During 2025, we held twelve board meetings, one each month. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the board members for their dedication, support, and commitment to managing the society’s ongoing affairs, as well as for their initiatives and ideas to improve services for all members.
Among the highlights of this year’s achievements are:
We also awarded 10 funded places for Short-Term Missions (STMs), and I look forward to hearing about these talented young researchers’ experiences during BioEM 2026. The education committee is currently reviewing STM applications for next year, with winners to be announced on 10 January 2026.
After careful consideration of several proposals, the board has decided that BioEM 2027 will be held in Gdańsk, Poland, from 13–18 June 2027.
Preparations for BioEM 2026 in Cairns, Australia (21–26 June 2026) are well underway, led by the Local Organizing Committee (Sarah Lougran and Lena Kranold) and the Technical Program Committee (Myles Capstick and Rodney Croft). The Call for Abstracts has been issued, and the submission system has been open since 1 December. Please spread the word and encourage colleagues to submit their research for this prestigious international event! Keep an eye out for exciting updates from Mike Wood one of the local organisers as we build anticipation for a fantastic meeting in Cairns.
The current board’s term will conclude in June 2026, when a new board will take office under the presidency of Micaela Liberti at the General Assembly. Formal nominations are open until 31 December 2025, please send them to president@bioem.org . All eligible nominees will appear on the ballot alongside those selected by the nomination committee.
Finally, please remember to renew or apply for membership for 2026 to ensure uninterrupted access to exclusive benefits. I am delighted to announce that the board has approved a complimentary one-year membership for all registrants of BioEM 2026, details will follow when registration opens.
Wishing you and your family love, peace, and happiness this Christmas, and a happy and prosperous New Year!
Warm regards,
Azadeh Peyman President, BioEM
