Purchases
We use PayPal for all financial transactions. If you decide to check out with a credit card, the credit card number is collected and passed on to PayPal. We do not store the credit card number. If you decide to checkout with PayPal directly, then we do not have direct access to your payment details such as credit card numbers. Cookies
We use small text files called cookies to improve overall site experience. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing information about the user. Cookies generally do not permit us to personally identify you.
Email Campaigns
We use a service called MailChimp to send emails to members and past members. We transfer personal information such as names and email addresses to MailChimp in order to carryout the email campaigns. Please refer to MailChimp’s privacy policy at https://mailchimp.com/ for more information.
Tracking Website Traffic
When you visit our website, we also collect information about your computer, including your IP address, the type of operating system and browser you use, your computer’s location, what pages you visit on our site, what links you click on, and what other sites you’ve visited recently. We use Google Analytics to aggregate data on visitors to our website. Google Analytics places some computer code on each web page to enable tracking of visitors. Journal Subscriptions
In the event you subscribe to the journal Bioelectromagnetics, we transfer your personal infomation to the publisher Wiley. Please refer to Wiley’s privacy policy at https://www.wiley.com/en-ca/privacy for more information.
Do you share my personal information with third parties?
Visitors who view the website anonymously will have access to web pages with news articles, announcements, lists of board members, lists of presidents, d’Arsonval award recipients, and student award recipients. These web pages may include personal information such as names, biographical information, and photos.
In addition to the information available to anonymous visitors, active members in good standing who login to our website can view web pages of membership lists (active and inactive), committees, business documents, obituaries, and member profiles. These web pages may include personal information such as names, photos, biographical information.
In the normal course of Society business, we may transfer your personal information to MailChimp for email announcments (name, email address), Wiley for journal subscriptions (name, physical address, email address), and PayPal for payments (name, physical address, email address).
We do not share your personal information with any other third parties.
Data Protection
We protect your data in several ways. We use secure web hosting with SSL certificate for all communication between our server and end users. Pages with personal information are password protected and only available to members in good standing. For example, member profile pages containing a picture, biography, membership status, and contact link are only accessible to members in good standing who have logged into the website. We also use active, real-time monitoring of our web server to mitigate potential attacks and hacking attempts. User email addresses are never shared between users through the website, except in cases related to routine business of the Society, such as internal Board and Committee email lists. When personal data is copied from the server to a local hard disk during the normal course of Society business, the local hard disk is encrypted and password protected.
