20th December 2024
Dear BioEM member,
I am honored and humbled to lead the new board of directors who took office in June 2024. We had five board meetings so far and have set up committees to oversee and organise various tasks from allocation of awards, to setting up training courses, promoting the society’s journal and making sure the annual meetings are delivered smoothly and with highest standards.
I extend my gratitude to the board members for their dedication, support, and commitment to managing the ongoing affairs of the society and for their initiatives and ideas to improve services for all members.
Following the success of 2023 and 2024 Short-Term Mission (STM) program for students and early stage researchers, I am delighted that the board of directors decided to increase this grant to €3500 for applicants from high and low-middle income countries around the globe. I am also grateful to colleagues from various labs that have expressed interest in hosting STM candidates for 2025. The board of directors’ education committee is currently hard at work processing the applications received for this year with the aim of announcing the winners on 20th of December 2024. You can watch testimonials from some of the 2024 winners here.
Calls for nominees for 2025 “D’Arsonval Award” and “Young Scientist Award in Bioelectromagnetics” are now open until 28th of February 2025 and I encourage members to send their nominations following instructions stated in the society’s website.
As part of plans to promote the society’s official journal, Bioelectromagnetics, two calls were launched for two special issues, one focusing on “Neurostimulation” and the other on “Assessment of exposure of humans from 5G and 6G technologies.” The publication of the Neurostimulation special issue is expected shortly as all the submitted manuscript have now gone through peer review process. The deadline to submit to 5G and 6G dosimetry special issue is 31st of December and I encourage all members engaged in research in this area to submit their work to this special issues.
Finally, the Local Organizers (led by Julien Modolo and Alexandre Legros) and Technical Program Committee (led by Francesca Apollonio and Olga Pakhomova) are busy with preparation for BioEM 2025 scheduled to be held in Rennes, France from 22-27 June 2025. Call for abstracts has already been sent out, and the abstract submission system will be open from 2nd of January 2025. Please spread the word amongst your networks and encourage colleagues to submit the result of their research to be presented in this prestigious international scientific event!
Wishing you and your family love, peace, and happiness during this Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year!
